      <image:caption>Although it took thirty-eight years, Ernest’s return to seaside resort in Co Donegal was casual, impulsive and happened in early June. The town was richer looking than he remembered but less busy. Each gaudy coloured premises had its bright lights and music vying with its neighbours for the few early holidaymakers. But it was the smells that had changed the most. Everywhere there was cooking. Everyone seemed to be eating. Holidays had come to mean endless cheap spicy food.</image:caption>
